Answer to Liberty
Answer to Liberty 18 x 24 Oil on Canvas Sold |
This painting is inspired by the commitment of those who sacraficed all to make a dream of a nation based on the principals that all men are created equal and they and the generation after them could live in freedom. This is a folk art type painting With the American Flag in the back ground and the opening lines of The Declaration of Independence in the white stripes of the flag and Colonial Soldiers forming in the front. This and other paintings as this represent at least to me what so many freely gave their all and to all those who still do to ensure that future generations can still enjoy those same basic rights. Which is some thing that is not given so freely tobe cheaply sold or recklessly traded by some for selfish personal interests.

These youg ladies are enjoying the after noon but they don't realize that in the near woods are Cherokee Indians ready to take them as captives. Despite the large clearings around the settlement for saftey, the indians still manage to get close enough with out being noticed to mount their attack on the settlement in and attempts to drive the settlers back over the mountains into Eastern Virginia and Western North Carolinia. Unfortunatley the girls are too far from the Block House to make and escape to saftey.

Watchful Eyes
The girl in this scene is trying to entice a watchful lamb to come close enough for her to pet while she is also keeping a watchful eye for indians that maybe lurking in the vast wilderness of the western frontier of Virginia in 1777.
The actual setting is taken from my pictures of a young girl re-enactor at The Block House located at Natural Tunnel State Park in Scott County, Virginia.which portays every day colonial life as well as indian life and the hardships and perils faced by those who settled the western frontier on their way to Kentucky.
